Sheryl Sandberg on Dave Goldberg’s death: “Things will never be the same”


Sheryl Sandberg broke her silence on Tuesday about the death of her husband and SurveyMonkey CEO Dave Goldberg, who died suddenly from severe head trauma after collapsing while exercising last week.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Facebook's COO thanked family and friends for the "outpouring of love" and recounted memories including how she met Goldberg almost 20 years ago after moving to Los Angeles.

"He showed me the Internet for the first time, planned fun outings, took me to temple for the Jewish holidays, introduced me to much cooler music than I had ever heard," Sandberg wrote, adding that they shared 11 happy years of love, marriage and partnership. "He gave me the experience of being deeply understood, truly supported and completely and utterly loved — and I will carry that with me always. Dave Goldberg, SurveyMonkey CEO, died after exercising on vacation in Mexico


SurveyMonkey CEO Dave Goldberg, the longstanding, respected figure among Silicon Valley's elite, died suddenly on Friday evening. Until now, however, details surrounding his death have remained unclear.

A source close to the family told Mashable that Goldberg was on vacation with family and friends at a private resort in Mexico, and died after collapsing while exercising at the gym there. Efforts to revive him both on-site and at the hospital were unsuccessful.

Reports from Re/code and the New York Times broke the news on Monday.

The family is planning a service and burial in California.

Goldberg is survived by his wife and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, and a young daughter and a son. Following the announcement of his death on Saturday, many members of the tech community expressed sympathy on Twitter, Goldberg's Facebook timeline and elsewhere online. Read more...

Dave Goldberg, SurveyMonkey CEO and Sheryl Sandberg’s husband, dies suddenly at 47


Dave Goldberg, CEO of online survey startup SurveyMonkey and husband of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, died suddenly Friday evening. He was 47.

“We are heartbroken by this news,” a Facebook spokesperson told Mashable on Saturday.

Goldberg, who also leaves behind a young daughter and son, was a longstanding, respected figure among Silicon Valley's elite. A Harvard University graduate who majored in history, Goldberg had served as CEO of SurveyMonkey since 2009.
